Artist(s) Wanted For Site-Specific Installation

Installation from the first Latimer Lounge.

Installation from the first Latimer Lounge.

The Historic House Trust recently formalized its Contemporary Art Partnerships (CAP) program, which is dedicated to providing opportunities for site-specific art experiences at our houses, producing one-on-a-kind events that can only occur at a historic house museum.

HHT is currently looking to commission a Queens-based artist to create a site-specific installation on the grounds of the Lewis Latimer House in Flushing. With this installation, we aim to forge connections between the Latimer family’s African-American heritage and Flushing’s current Asian and Latin American residents.

Proposals are being accepted from August 1 to October 31, 2014.

For the RFP please click here or email hhtinfo@parks.nyc.gov and use the subject line QUEENSartist.

  2. Is Shenole Latimer part of this family? Shenole is a jazz musician who has created some incredible sounds on the sax over the past two summers in a series of concerts in Northport, LI. I am an installation artist currently showing in Patchogue’s Oct. 17-26 PAC-MAC Arts Festival, and Shenole stands out as someone who’d inspire me to do some cool installations… but I’m based in East Northport, Suffolk County. Then again..I enjoy collaborating with other artists..
